First commercial shipment of Aquaterra - Nuseed’s land-based source of omega-3 for the aquaculture industry has set sail to commercial customers in Chile

Australia
November 20, 2020

Aquaterra®, a land-based source of omega-3, derived from Nuseed’s Omega-3 Canola, was delivered to its first customers in Chile, where it will be used by the aquaculture industry to feed salmon. Graduating from the pilot stage to commercial reality is a significant milestone.

The journey from seed to feed is long. Nuseed Omega-3 Canola is grown in Montana and North Dakota in the US by contracted partners. The harvested seed is collected and processed into finished feed oil in the Mid-West by one of the world’s leading agricultural processors, ADM, and then stored for shipment on the Gulf Coast. Each shipment is carefully prepared for transport through the Panama Canal to the southern coast of Chile, where the oil will be included in feed for salmon.

The export shipment has been successfully executed by Iris Reyes and Abdul Bath who coordinated multiple service providers for logistics and quality assurance. A number of steps have had to be completed for the first time and their persistence has been critical to exceeding customer expectations.

The full supply chain is certified by Excellence Through Stewardship to maintain traceability and product integrity at every step of production.

Pablo Berner, Aquaculture Lead of Nuseed, says, “This shipment demonstrates Aquaterra® is a real, logistically efficient option in formulating diets rich in omega- 3, and provides a cost-efficient complement to marine ingredients.”

Nuseed is positioned to increase volumes and contribute to the sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry by advancing the oil mix for feed formulation.
